USCAA National Corporate Cup Relays

The USCAA National Corporate Cup Relays is a two-day national championship similar to a track and field Olympics, with opening ceremonies, trials, and finals. The main focus of these championships is to promote health in the workplace and competition among corporate athletes. Events are team- or relay-oriented to make them equally competitive for men and women of all ages. For example, one relay requires at least one woman runner plus another runner 35 years of age or older. Some events even require runners of a particular executive level. Individual distances in these relays range from 100 or 200 meters to 2 miles on the track. Team-oriented shot put, discus, high jump and long jump round out the field events. The field events score teams of two. In addition to track events, there are road races; 5km and 10km. The scores are tabulated from the top four or five runners per team. Also included are two non-scoring events: a 4-person relay consisting of two Special Olympic athletes and two corporate athletes, and races for "corporate kids".Picture

The competition allows both the weekend warrior and the former college track star to participate in the same event and to contribute equally to a team's success. For example, a 50-year-old woman who wins her age group in the 5K scores as high as the overall winner. Each year, nationally-known runners co-host the event and cheer participants on.

The team spends a weekend at the national event, where social events, parties and other functions are planned for the group.

CHECK THIS OUT!
The USCAA needs runners!! If you have friends, family, spouses or other individuals who are not attached to a company but who would be interested in participating, we need them! We can match them up with desperate teams (Division III) who will be unable to field several events without your help. Sometimes a pulse is all that is required, genuine enthusiasm is a bonus, and talent would make it swoon. Lots of very needy teams, so please help out.

USCAA Regionals

The USCAA Regionals, for the state of Texas, are held every year in June. The meet serves as a warm-up for the USCAA Nationals, helping athletes to gage their fitness level, and further help out in the make-up of the relay teams for the Nationals.

USCAA Marathon

The National Corporate Marathon Championship is held annually in conjunction with a major marathon. Host marathons have included such sites as Portland, OR; Los Angeles, CA; Houston, TX; San Diego, CA; Las Vegas, NV; and Myrtle Beach, SC. Runners are scored using standard WAVA tables.

Each company can have an unlimited number of runners competing (each runner must be included on the team roster). A team score will be determined upon completion of the marathon. For the USCAA marathon championships, each runner's score will be their WAVA performance level based on their official race time, age, and gender. (Scores will be to 2 decimal places, truncating any remainder). Team scores are calculated by summing the four best individual scores.

USCAA teams may also enter the marathon relay. Relay teams consist of 5 runners. The relay distances will mimic the participating marathon's. USCAA relay teams must register with the overall marathon in the appropriate division (male, female, mixed) and well as registering with USCAA.

Penn Relays

For 2006, the Tigers sent one team to compete in the famous Penn Relays. There are a large number of teams entered every year to race the corporate relay. The Tigers made us proud finishing 4th. The Tigers are hoping to send two or more teams every year year to this event, composed of a 1200m, 400m, 800m and 1600, with at least one runner over 40, and one female.

Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge

Inspired by their successful sponsorship of the New York City Marathon, bank officials looked for a way to create an event solely for corporate runners, and at a distance for which even a busy executive would have time to train. It was decided to try a single Corporate Challenge® race at 3.5 miles.

The idea took on a life of its own in 1977 when 200 runners from 50 companies gathered in Central Park for the inaugural race in what then was called the Manufacturers Hanover Corporate Challenge®. The idea was an obvious hit. The Series has done nothing but grow, and grow, and grow since.

The Series sends a message that it is not just fiscal fitness that is important in the corporate world. Physical fitness also is important. Participating companies use the races as a platform to promote fitness and well-being in the work place. Runners find it easy to train for the 3.5-mile distance and have the extra benefit of competing with their colleagues in a relaxed and social atmosphere.
